Phoenix Academy and Pimlico Academy visit Rome

In September 2024, Latin Excellence Programme students from both Phoenix Academy, London, and Pimlico Academy, London, each embarked on an unforgettable trip to Rome.

The students from Phoenix Academy immersed themselves in the rich history and culture of the ancient world. They explored iconic landmarks, such as the Colosseum, Foro Romano, and the Musei Capitolini, gaining deeper insights into Roman life.

The group marveled at the architectural wonders of the Pantheon and Ara Pacis, and took a moment to relax in the beautiful Giardini del Quirinale.

Visits to the Museo Nazionale Romano and Palazzo Massimo provided even more exposure to Rome’s cultural heritage. The trip was a perfect blend of education, exploration, and unforgettable experiences!

The Year 10 and 11 students from Pimlico Academy also had a jam-packed itinerary, with visits to Ostia Antica, the Colosseum, Foro Romano and Palatine Hill, the Pantheon, the Circus Maximus, and, of course, the comparatively modern tourist attraction of the Trevi Fountain.

They were able to make lots of connections to their learning in school, getting to see in-person many of the sites and monuments they have been learning about as part of their study of the City of Rome component at GCSE.

A true highlight was that the students from both Pimlico and Phoenix academies had the opportunity to meet together at the Baths of Diocletian and spend a wonderful sunny afternoon watching re-enactments of gladiator fights!
