ENRICHMENT

As part of the Latin Excellence Programme, the Centre organised and funded enrichment activities and trips for participating students.

Fable competition: The annual Young Aesopi fable competition took place each summer term. Students in their first year learning Latin (usually year 7) were challenged to compose an original fable in Latin to compete for prizes.

The 2023 and 2024 contests had many excellent entries, and winners were selected by a panel including Professor Mary Beard. The winners were awarded with Classics books and Latin Excellence Programme Roman-style coins.

Study trips: Throughout the programme students had opportunities to visit areas of interest both within the UK and internationally. Over the last year the programme supported trips to Bath, York, Hadrian’s Wall, Rome and Pompeii. You can find out more about some of these trips here.
