Barclay Academy’s Visit to Verulamium

On Tuesday 26th September 2023, a large group of Year 9 Latin Excellence Programme students from Barclay Academy visited the Verulamium Museum and Hypocaust in St Albans.

The students spent time exploring the Museum's extensive collection of objects from the Roman town of Verulamium and learning about life in Roman Britain. They also visited the remains of the Hypocaust from the baths in the nearby villa and saw the intricate mosaic which is still preserved there.

Students also attended an object handling session where they were faced with real Roman objects and were invited to question to whom these objects might have belonged, and their purpose. Barclay Academy look forward to taking the rest of Year 9 in the near future!
